As of May 1, 2009 OHIM has made a change in the fee structure for Community trademarks. There has been a slight raise of the application fee, from EUR 900 to EUR 1050 for paper filed applications and from EUR 750 to EUR 900 for electronically filed applications. The main feature of the change of fee structure is however the fact that the registration fee has been terminated. Consequently the overall official fees from start to finish have been lowered by some 40%.

When further concerning the cost for designating the European Union in an international registration, said fee has been lowered from EUR 1450 to EUR 870. The reason herefore of course being that previously the registration fee was included in the designation fee for the European Union.

The termination of the registration fee will have a retroactive effect also for applications filed prior to May 1, 2009. For all applications, regardless of the filing date, in which OHIM had not requested payment of the registration fee by May 1, 2009 there will be no need for payment of the registration fee, even though the applicant was able to file the application with the previous and lower application fee.
